Morgan’s Neutral Nursery

Ailee_Petrovic_160205_L86A1547 copySince moving last May, I have loved making our house a home. It’s been so much fun transforming our space to make it our own, and shopping for home décor has turned into one of my favorite activities. I just love discovering new finds, pieces and places that help bring my vision to life. Living in a three-story townhome with the majority of the living spaces on the first and second floors, the third floor acted more like a storage area for the first several months after we moved in. But that soon changed once we found out we were expecting… time to decorate the nursery!

Because we waited to be surprised on the baby’s sex, I knew I wanted to go with a neutral palette that could work for either a baby girl or boy. First and foremost: paint. Who knew choosing a shade of grey would be so difficult? There are wayyyy more than 50 shades of grey, let me tell you. ;)

We ended up going with a medium shade that felt warm and cozy next to our bright white trim… I forget the name of the shade, but it’s from Sherwin Williams! I then fell in love with two rugs (here and here) and that helped to kickstart the process of determining the layout of the room, picking furniture and hunting for décor.

I’m not a huge DIYer, but I knew I wanted to transform my childhood dresser into a pretty white, updated piece for the baby. A couple coats of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in antique white, a generous coat of wax and some beautiful green glass knobs did just the trick in making the dresser feel like new. Add in the crib, nightstand, glider, some floating shelves, and voila!

Then came the personal touches and I really wanted to create a small gallery wall in the nursery that we could add to over time. I found some great, affordable pieces at HomeGoods and incorporated an authentic dream catcher we purchased in Santa Fe soon after we conceived. But it still needed a personal touch unique to our family. So when Minted reached out to have us review their photo art line, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to add something special.

This vertical foil stamped option caught my eye immediately with its simple yet playful design. I loved how easy it was to customize with our baby announcement photo and best of all, there’s an option for framing! Perfect, done. And I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.

But the best addition to the nursery was of course bringing Morgan home to his room. It’s clear that he loves the space we’ve created for him — he’s the most calm, happy and comfortable when he’s in there! And that makes all the difference.

How do you make your house feel like home? Check out more of Minted’s photo art options and customize your own piece! It’s seriously too easy (and pretty!) to pass up.
