Several weeks ago I was able to go on a long-awaited and much-needed girls weekend. There was six of us and we had two and a half relaxing days with delicious food, drinks and all the chick flicks we could ask for. We always like to do some sort of DIY on this bi-annual occasion and making a sweet-smelling sugar scrub was just the ticket during this kid-free weekend.
These were so simple and fun to make – all you need are a few supplies. We picked up some cute, sealable jars from Hobby Lobby, but a mason jar you may already have would work too.
Next, grab some sugar, coconut oil (from your grocer), and your favorite essential oil to make it smell like a luxurious spa treatment. You can pick up essential oils from your local health food store if you don’t have any, but we used these. I picked out wild orange and eucalyptus for my sugar scrub – it’s a great blend of citrus and herbs, so it’s not too overpowering.
We used about one cup of sugar to every 1/3 cup of coconut oil. But if you want your sugar scrub to be a little more chunky, then use less coconut oil. Mix it all in a bowl to get just the right ratio and texture you want for your scrub, then add the essential oils and spoon into your glass jar.
We labeled each jar with little wooden tags and tied spoons (found in the crafting department of HL) to the jars for easy access. I hope you enjoy making your sugar scrub as much as you enjoy using it! It’s the perfect little R&R treat for the shower or bath – enjoy!
