Remember a few weeks ago when I said that things are happening… big, exciting, woohoo type of things? Well, we are officially homeowners! We closed on our home in late April and since then, we’ve been busy prepping our new home for move-in. With contractors working around the clock, things have been much less than calm but so very exciting!
As first-time homebuyers, we certainly have a lot to learn along the way but I have to admit that it’s been so much fun so far. From picking paint colors to deciding which hardware fits best in which space, we’re already seeing how minor adjustments can make a big statement. I’ll be doing a series of updates as we move into our new home and this is just a sneak-peek into the kitchen.
With wood cabinets, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, the kitchen is open and spacious, something that was on our “must-have” list during the house hunt. While we could see the potential in this space, we knew it needed a little love and attention to really make it feel like ours. Here’s the before:
The paint colors we chose are Sherwin Williams’ ‘Snowbound’ for the cabinets and trim, ‘Silver Sage’ for the walls, and ‘Dovetail’ for the island. Silver Sage is a Restoration Hardware color that they can mix for you at Sherwin Williams and we used this color throughout the entire house, so you’ll see it in lots of photos to come! It’s a beautiful blueish-green shade that’s subtle and soft but adds a bit of color to brighten up the home.
None of the cabinets or drawers had hardware (which immediately seemed so odd to me) so we chose the Gilmore line from Restoration Hardware and just love it. It’s very heavy and will stand the test of time as our family makes lots of memories in this kitchen. The hardware and paint have really transformed the whole feel of this kitchen and we couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out. A glass cabinet is being installed at the edge of the island and once that’s finished, the kitchen will be done! Here’s where we are as of yesterday:
I’ll be sharing more home renovation and design photos in the coming weeks! We move in less than 10 days which means, oh yes, it’s time to get back to packing… Ta ta, for now!
