Hello, there! I have been long overdue for a recap. July was a big month for our little family: celebrating multiple birthdays, traveling to new places and experiencing adventures in the great outdoors as a family of four. Here are a few moments and memories along the way! I’ve also included Part II of Vacation Diaries – Part I is here in case you missed it!
On July 4th, not only did we celebrate our nation’s independence, but we also celebrated my husband’s birthday. It’s always a fun gathering of family and friends and we celebrate with ice cream sundaes and fireworks. C loved to play in the sprinkler with his cousins – one of my favorite childhood summer pastimes.
July 11: Vacation Diaries – Part II
We left at 5:30 in the morning to make the 18-hour, 2-day drive to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. While the drive became increasingly long, it also became more scenic the further north we drove. We caravanned with my brother-in-law’s family and spent a wonderful week in the mountains soaking up the scenery with hiking, shopping and local events like the hot-air balloon festival.
Our eight-year wedding anniversary was celebrated by hiking up to Fish Creek Falls. It was the most beautiful morning! Rising early became a habit on this trip since we didn’t want to waste any of the cool weather. The whole group is here in this photo at the foot of the falls. I feel so blessed to be married to this man and getting to grow our family together.
A gondola ride took us up the 9,000 foot Mount Werner and a hike at the top revealed gorgeous views of Steamboat below. The little town is nestled in a valley among the mountains and it has hidden gems like a local bookstore and coffee shop, consignment stores and unique boutiques, along with a cafe that served generous breakfast plates that were just divine!
My baby boy turned one! We spent the day by taking another trip out to the river which had quickly become a favorite spot of ours by the end of the trip. The low, rushing water was ice cold – but the kiddos weren’t even phased. The boys enjoyed skipping rocks while I caught a little sun on the shore of the river.
We ended the month of July and kicked off August by celebrating my little one’s birthday back home with the rest of our family and friends. He took his first bite of chocolate cake and it was all over from there!
Summer is coming to a close so soon and the fall routine will quickly settle in – however, I look forward to seeing what August has in store for this little happy place here at R&R!
Have a lovely Tuesday, friends!
