Hubby’s Homemade Salmon Burgers

TGIF, lovelies! Even though this was a short work week, it certainly seems like Friday took a while to get here. I’m so ready for some R&R. I can’t remember the last time I actually had nothing on the weekend calendar. Hooray! Now, are you ready for the most delish dish ever?

We love to cook but lately we’ve had no motivation to even go to the grocery store to stock up on the basics, let alone ingredients for a homecooked meal. Thankfully, since hubby graduated the other day, he’s been keeping busy around the house and well, I’ve been keeping him busy with a honey-do list — including a long overdue visit to the grocery.

And boy was I lucky! He came home and cranked out the most delicious salmon burgers with homemade tartar sauce. I love salmon and I love burgers but I’m usually not a fan of salmon burgers. But this time, they turned out just perfect. They were light and flavorful with the right amount of tang and spice. YUM! This is definitely our new summer dinner recipe that’s both easy and tasty. Below is the recipe for both the burgers and the sauce — and I promise, this is one that definitely won’t disappoint.


Salmon Burgers:
– 3 cans of salmon in water
– 1/2 cup of Panko breadcrumbs
– 1 egg
– 1/2 large yellow onion, diced
– 1/2 cup of diced bell peppers
– 2 cloves of fresh garlic,
– Tbsp soy sauce
– Juice of 1 lemon
– Cajun seasoning
– Blackening seasoning
– Salt/pepper to taste

Tartar Sauce:
– 1/2 cup of mayonnaise
– Chopped green onion
– 2 tbsp dill relish
– 2 tbsp pickled relish
– 1 tsp of lemon juice
– Garlic powder
– Salt/pepper to taste

Mix all of the wet ingredients and seasonings for the salmon burgers in a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Once ready, combine wet and dry and mix with your hands. You may need to add a little bit of water or milk to moisten the mixture and allow it to bind more easily. Form patties and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

While the burgers are chilling, mix the tartar sauce ingredients together in a bowl, cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.

Using a stove-top grill pan over medium heat, brown the salmon burgers for approximately 5 minutes on each side. The edges will crisp — you’ll love it! Once your burgers are ready to roll, simply remove from the heat and serve. These burgers go great with sliced tomatoes or avocado on top and are delicious between a bun too!


We opted for no bun and had our sauce on the side… But trust me, I would’ve LOVED to slather that burger up and put it between between two slices of toasted bread. Y-U-M-M-Y.
