DIY: Potting Bench

potting bench1

Growing up, one thing my mom instilled in me was a love for gardening. She had such a green thumb and I have special memories of spring days spent with her learning about techniques and care. Now while I dream of beautiful gardens, I also would love to build my own potting bench someday to pot some pretty posies.

Aren’t these just lovely? There are numerous potting benches out there that can be reclaimed from old furniture such as dressers, side tables, old doors, re-purposed fence boards and even a baby’s changing table. There’s even a step-by-step guide on how to create a potting bench out of wood pallets.

I just love these darling topiaries!

…and this color! It really pops, I mean, why not?

Who wouldn’t want a chandelier above their potting bench?

Re-purposed baby’s changing table – who knew?

Use burlap as a curtain to hide bulky potting soil bags.

There are so many ideas out there – I would love to find an old beat-up dresser that just needs a little TLC and paint it a fun, bright color. Seems like storage is essential to each of these as well as workspace for pots, soil and tools. Which ones are your favorite? I’m thinking my potting bench will be a little mix of the rustic with a little glam to create an extra special space.
