A New Start & Some French Toast

Waking up today, it feels like a chance for a whole new start. Resolutions, dreams, goals, plans -it’s a brand new beginning for all of it. More to come on that later. For now, my thoughts turn to food after such a late night of celebratory festivities.

Additionally, it’s probably one of the last days you can find the creamy traditional holiday drink on your grocer’s shelves – otherwise known as eggnog.

Last week, while home on Christmas vacation, I got a hankering for French Toast. I haven’t made it at home in a long time and I really wanted to make something delicious for brunch that morning. It just so happened that I was out of milk that chilly morning, and like me, not wanting to venture out to the store for one item, I decided to use what I had on hand.

Voila! Eggnog French Toast was born.

Here are the ingredients I used – 3 eggs, equal parts of eggnog, dashes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Dredge both sides of your favorite kind of bread in the mixture.

Fire up the griddle over medium high heat and cook for about a minute or less on each side or until the egg is cooked to a golden brown.

I like to serve ’em up hot and enjoy with a cold cup of eggnog on the side. Delicious!

I hope you have a very happy 2014 – now go make some French toast!
