I am drawn to home organization. When I flip through the glossy pages of a Better Homes & Gardens magazine – or any home decor periodical for that matter – if there’s an article featuring an entry way or laundry room, I’m hooked.
Now as a mommy of two, in order to keep myself and my family organized (and keep our sanity) I knew it was important to have a place to drop everything off as soon as we entered our home after a busy day of work or play. Not having a mudroom was not an option.
However, I had to get a little creative. My laundry room and pantry are combined together in a galley style room which opens up to a hallway. There was no true space for an actual mudroom. But I was persistent and thought outside the box. That’s when I decided to create my mudroom on a wall.
A couple of simple shelves for decor and small storage.
A basket for mail.
Hooks for hanging keys and dog leashes.
A bench which is a must-have for putting shoes on little ones in the busy mornings.
And a tin bucket for collecting hats and scarves in the winter and sunscreen and pool toys in summer.
I love the way my makeshift mudroom turned out! It brings me a little bit of happiness every time I walk through the door because I’m able to drop my cares at the door and I have the peace of mind to care for my family.
