It’s a little tough to follow Jessica’s adorable nursery reveal from yesterday but in sticking with the whole family theme, I figured I’d share something very near and dear to my heart. As you know, I recently celebrated my one-year wedding anniversary which brought up lots of sweet memories of our wedding day. While the entire weekend was filled with laughter, love, lots of celebration and so much more, one of the most important moments of the special day was our “first look.”
Our wedding didn’t involve too many quiet moments. At the time, I don’t think I realized how significant our first look would actually be–and it turned out to be one of the most magical moments of our lives. As a bride who had been planning her wedding day for months upon months (and thinking about it for years upon years), it was pretty easy to picture our wedding day and know what to expect. But the one thing I really couldn’t anticipate was the look on my love’s face when he saw me all dolled up in my wedding dress for the first time. As sappy as it may sound… it really was something out of a fairytale.
For brides-to-be who are planning their wedding day, I encourage you to make time for this special moment. Enjoy the day with your friends and family, and do your best to separate yourselves. My then fiance and I disconnected from each other all day, without a text or a call. And while to some that may be a little too traditional, the first look is really worth the wait. There’s this incredible energy that is so short yet so significant.
The way he looks at you will make you melt and your heart will beat out of your chest with complete passion and love for the person you are about to marry. In a strange way, it was exciting and calming in the very same instance. It made me want to run to him and dance and sing and celebrate while also feeling completely at ease, putting everything in perspective and knowing this was the reason for it all. Like I said, it’s truly magical.
